What this will be

My name is Jeff Halley I went to UC Berkeley where I got my PhD in yeast genetics and molecular biology.  I sing and play guitar in a band called the Pentacles.  I am interested in way more things than I can study or pursue full time so hopefully this blog will let me do something productive with these interests rather than waste them on boring my friends at parties.  I have fairly strong views about a lot of unrelated topics but I don't want to be someone who thinks their opinion matters to other people just because it exists.  So when I do offer some strong view I hope that I can offer a reasonable argument for why I have that view.  If I don't live up to this, please call me out on it.  Maybe my first topic will be why an individual's opinion aren't really relevant to other people.  Right now I am too tired to write a post about that though.
